WHAT'S THE BUZzz?

WHAT'S THE BUZzz?

 Here a buzz, there a buzz...everywere a buzz buzz.
Have you ever been stung by a bee?
I don't know about you, but I sure have. And let me tell you, that it is terrible.

It all hppened when i was i was cleaning my room. I opened the windows for some fresh air and in came the bee. It flew around my face, so i tried to swat it away. But to my surprise it stung me. That was a lesson well learned: attack a bee and it will definitly attack you back.
After the bee attacked me it moved round and round and then fell flat. I was astonished, and it got me thinking, why would such a thing happen?
I then learnt that, immidiatly after a bee stings a person it dies.

The bee that stung me was a bumblebee. The bee belongs to kingdom animalia, phylum arthpoda and class insecta. This species has over 250 species in the genus Bombus, part of Apidae, one of the bee families. Bumblebees are social insects that form colonies with a single queen. Bumblebees have round bodies covered in soft hair, long branched setae called 'pile', making them appear and feel fuzzy. They have aposematic coloration, often consisting of contrasting bands of colour, and in a region  different species of bumblebee often resemble each other.

Like their relatives the honeybees, bumblebees feed on nectar, using their long hairy tongues to lap up the liquid. Each nest has a queen, drones, and workers. The queen is the only one wo will lay eggs. The queen will retire after laying eggs.
Typically, bumblebees are found in temperate climates, and they are often found at higher altitudes and latitudes than the other bees, although some lowland tropical species exist.

After i was bitten my mother proceeded to rub tamrind on my hand where i got stung. But the situation got wrose soon after. They tried to remove stinger but failed. the tamrind only made it worse.
When stung by a bee the first thing is to remove the stinger via fingernail or with a knife towards the direction that you were bitten. then apply soap and water to it and not something like tamrind which is acidic, then visit a doctor. These are some of the things that are to be kept in mind whle dealing with bees.

Until next time.

CRAFTING WITH GRAFTING

CRFTING WITH GRAFTING

My grandfather used to tell me many stories about his past. And one ting that he shared in certain grabbed my interest. He told me that the mango tree in our backyard was planted by my great great grandfather.
And this is a mango variety of two types. They are called Mankurad and Mussrad in Goa. How did he get this mixed variety of mango?
He told me about something about cutting one tree and fixing it to another, and immidietly my mind screamed GRAFTING.

We learnt about grafting in school, but this process has been going on for years. The diffrence is that we learnt it scientifically and they learnt practically.
Grafting is the act of joining two plants together. The upper part of the graft called the scion becomes the top of the plant, the lower portion called the understock becomes the root system or part of the trunk. Although grafting usually refers to joining only two plants, it may be a combination of several.

Grafting is used for a variety of purposes: to repair injured trees, to produce dwarf trees and shrubs, to strengthen plants' resistance to certain diseases, to retain varietal characteristics, to adapt varieties to adverse soil or climatic conditions, to ensure pollination.

How is grafting performed?
First you must keep in mind that pre learning about plant is absolutely necessary. Next, sanitise the tools that you will use for grafting. Grafting can be done in two ways. First, you can do it on the tree of interest and the second would be within a potted plant. If we use a potted plant, the first thing that should be done is as follows: plant one which is used for insertig will be cut at a 45 degree angle. Plant number two will be slit from the middle deep, depending upon the plant. Then insert plant in the slit and tie it very tight from top to bottom. Then let the plant grow.
This is how we can perform grafting.
Grafting can not only been done with fruits like mango, but with diffrent varieties of flowers as well.
I tried it with a rose plant.

Will you try grafting too?

See you next time
Cheerio

GIRAFFE: YOU ARE NOT EVEN AT MY LEVEL

GIRAFFE:YOU ARE NOT EVEN AT MY LEVEL

Ever wondered what it must be like to be a giraffe?
How it sees the world? What must it be like ?
As a tall person i was always called a giraffe in my life, and i never really took it as a complement. But now that i think of it...it's not bad at all. It only means that they would never reach my level.

Giraffe scientific name is Giraffa camelopardalis. It belongs to kingdom animalia, phylum chordata, and class mammalia.

Giraffe's are the tallest mammals in the world. It has extremely long neck and legs, its horn-like ossicones, and its spotted coat patterns. A giraffe's legs alone are taller than many humans about 6 feet . These long legs allow giraffes to run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances and cruise comfortably at 10 miles an hour over longer distances. wow!
Their food source is leaves, fruits, and flowers of woody plants, primarily acacia species, which they browse at heights most other herbivores cannot reach.

DID YOU KNOW?
Giraffes live in herds of related females and their offspring, or bachelor herds of unrelated adult males, but are gregarious and may gather in large aggregations.
Males establish social hierarchies through "necking", combat bouts where the neck is used as a weapon. Dominant males gain mating access to females, which bear sole responsibility for raising the young.

When we talk about the reproduction, Reproduction in giraffes is broadly polygamous: a few older males mate with the fertile females. Females can reproduce throughout the year and experience oestrus cycling approximately every 15 days. Female giraffes in oestrous are dispersed over space and time, so reproductive adult males adopt a strategy of roaming among female groups to seek mating opportunities, with periodic hormone-induced rutting behaviour approximately every two weeks. Males prefer young adult females over juveniles and older adults.
Even newborn giraffe are taller than most humans. Female giraffe give birth standing up. Their young fall about 2 m to the ground and can stand up within an hour of birth. Astounding.

Giraffes are now considered as endangered species, and should be protected. The giraffe is a protected species in most of its range. It is the national animal of Tanzania, and is protected by law, and unauthorised killing can result in imprisonment. Isn't that great?

Many animals like giraffes are getting endangered as the days go by. This is a matter of great concern and should be focused on. This is happening all because of our carelessness and therefore we must make protect them.
It might be difficult but it never hurts to try.

SAVE ANIMALS!

Have a great day.

Until next time.

Meet Bonita

                            MEET BONITA

Knock knock

Who's there?

Bam

Bam, who?

No. It's pronounced bamboo.

Have you ever grown a plant ? if yes the you will know what im taking about, if not then listen closely.
Let me tell you about my dear daughter Bonita. Now, now...Bonita is my little lucky bamboo plant. Yes, I am a plant mom.
Bonita, is 3 years old. She loves water, but not too much and loves to bathe in the sun. She has a short height and is still growing.

The scientific name of my plant Bonita is Dracaena sanderianaCommon names include Sander's dracaena, ribbon dracaena, lucky bamboo, curly bamboo, Chinese water bamboo, Goddess of Mercy's plant, Belgian evergreen. It is also called ribbon plant. Although Boita is a called a bamboo in several of its common names, D. sanderiana is of an entirely different taxonomic order from true bamboos.

It belongs to kingdom plantae and from phylum angiosperm. It is a monocot plant, no doubt because of its venation.
Dracaena sanderiana is a popular houseplant. It is a suitable plant in a confined space, and the most suitable place is a scattered light or semi-shade site because direct sunlight causes yellowing and burning of leaves.
Bonita does not need soil or fertilizer to grow. In fact, it will be just fine in distilled or purified water.

There is quite a symbolism to this plant, Two stalks represent love. Three stalks represent Fu which means happiness, Lu which is wealth, and Soh means long life. Five stalks represent balance, peace, harmony, and power in all areas of your life. Six stalks represent good luck and wealth. It is also said that luck bamboo attracts positive energy.

Would you consider buying a plant like Bonita ?

LIFE OF BRAVE

Life Of Brave

2020, it was the month of may, it had been raining quite heavily for the past few days. Places were flooded, shops closed, everything just seemed so gloomy. It was a atrocious storm. The rain had no plans to stop. When suddenly we heard a loud thud noise. We had not idea what it was, so we went to take a look. When we arrived, we saw a baby hawk and his mother had fallen off the tree top in the heavy rain. We checked to see if they were live, the baby hawk was, ufortunately the mother had passed away.

The baby had broken his wing and was unable to move. We took him in and tried to save him, gave him some food, water and medication. After the rain stopped we took him to the vet. He was then well taken care of.
Somehow my sister had a connection with the bird and was not ready to let go of it yet. We tried to leave him but he would not go. And thats how the baby hawk became a member of our family. He was named 'Brave'.

A Hawk symbolises intelligence, independence, adaptability, messages, clairvoyance, and spiritual awareness.
This brd has many names in different places like osprey, fish hawk,  peregrine falcon a "duck hawk".

The bird hawk is from kingdom animalia, phylum: chordata and class:aves. Hawks are birds of prey of the family Accipitridae. They are widely distributed and are found on all continents except Antarctica.

Based on a study that was done on hawks, it ws found that hawks are one of the most intellegent birds.
Brave is a warm blooded animal, the size of the hawk may range from  12 inches long to about 20 inches long. Most hawks have a long tail and short, rounded wings, which allow them to fly fast and low in areas with bushes and trees. Hawks, like other birds of prey, have sharp claws and a strong beak to catch and kill prey. The alimentary canal has a crop and a gizzard. The crops help in softening food, and the gizzard helps in crushing the food. They have spongy and elastic lungs for respiration. The special vocal organ called syrinx is present at the base of trachea. Their heart is four-chambered.

Many people get confused between a hawk and a falcon. but they are not the same. Falcons’ heads are usually short and rounded, whereas hawks, including accipeters, buetos, and eagles, have sleek, pointed heads.

Brave is 2.5 years old now, he is happy and striving, adapting and making a lot of bird friends.

Have you experienced anthing like this? let me know.

until then...

adieu.
